MISSION

The mission of Top of the Line Barber School is to provide each student with TOP OF THE LINE knowledge and skills, not only to pass the state licensing requirements, but to build a foundation for continuing education in each student’s professional field with the objective of obtaining the highest degree of excellence to establish and maintain a lifelong and rewarding professional career.

DESCRIPTION

The primary purpose of the Barber Program is to to train the student in basic manipulative skills, safety judgements, proper work habits, and desirable attitudes necessary to pass the State Board Examination and for competency in job entry level positions in Barbering or related career field.

CONTENT

The Class A Barber curricula consist of 1,000 clock hours or equivalent credit hours, as follows:

THEORY AND RELATED PRACTICE : 700 Hours

Anatomy and physiology; diseases and disorders of the skin, scalp, hair and nails; chemistry (haircoloring, chemical waving, and relaxing); bacteriology, sterilization and sanitation, health, safety, first aid, laws and rules; tools and equipment; hair care and related theory; business skills and establishment management; skin care and related theory; hair removal; nail care and related theory; electricity; haircutting; hairstyling; hair and scalp treatments, scalp massage; hairweaving, extensions; chemical textures and applications; face and neck massage and treatments; facial hair removal; manicuring; waxing and removing body hair; customer service and professional ethics; makeup; pedicuring; artificial nails.

SPECIALTY PRACTICE AND RELATED THEORY: 300 Hours

Shaving with any razor type and razor techniques; mustache and beard care; advanced hair care and men’s haircutting; and related practices.

INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS

Education is provided as a set of learning steps to achieve the skill necessary to graduate, pass the State Examinations and be employed in the field. Theory is taught five hours a week, students follow the Milady’s Standard Professional Barbering Textbook and the Instructors are guided by the Milady Course Management Guide Lesson Plans. Subjects are presented by means if lecture, instructor demonstrations, and student participation (student projects). Audio-Visual aids (DVDs, slides presented in the classroom, etc.) , guest speaker, field trips, and other related learning methods are used in the program.

GRADING PROCEDURES

All students must keep a cumulative grade of at least a “C” (70) in order to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress. The grade will be an average of the practice and theory work. Cumulative grade refers to the grades since the start of the program.
